4 Feb 2016 by BusinessTraveller

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has announced a major expansion of its “Specialty Select” brands across New York city and state over the next three years.

The group will open a total of ten new properties across its Aloft, Element and Four Points brands by the end of 2018, with the majority being located in NYC.

The 261-room Four Points New York Downtown (pictured below) has now opened, and is located at 6 Platt Street in New York City’s financial district. The hotel features a rooftop lounge, 2,000 square feet of meeting facilities, and full-service dining at The Ketch Brewhouse.

Forthcoming openings include Aloft Syracuse Inner Harbour, Four Points Manhattan Hudson Yards and Aloft Long Island City all scheduled for 2016, followed by Aloft New York LaGuardia Airport and Aloft New York Midtown in 2017.

Further ahead Four Points Flushing, Element Syracuse Inner Harbour and Element Spring Valley are all due to open in 2018.

Describing the Aloft, Element and Four Points brands as “Starwood’s global pipeline driver”, Brian McGuinness, Global Brand Leader, Specialty Select Brands for Starwood said:

“With our tech-forward mindset and innovative programming - a sweet spot in the category - our brands have re-energized the mid-market space and created an unprecedented level of buzz in the development community.”

Four Points passed the 200 hotels worldwide landmark last year, with Aloft reaching 100 properties in the same year, while sustainable brand Elements is “on track to more than double its global portfolio in the next three years”.

Starwood opened a record 105 properties worldwide last year (see news January 7), as the group gears up for its merger with Marriott International (see news November 16, 2015).
