Hilton HHonors, the loyalty programme of Hilton Worldwide, is currently offering bonus points on top of its usual purchase rate.
Members that buy points through the Hilton HHonors website from now until February 8 will receive an additional 80 per cent bonus points, on top of their purchased amount.
The bonus points deal allows customers to make significant savings on redeemings stays at select properties, particularly in the lower categories.
For example, the lowest rate for a night at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur in late February is RM333 (US$79). As a Category 2 designated hotel, the redemption rate is 10,000 Hilton HHonors points per night.
With the current 80 per cent bonus deal, members could purchase 6,000 points (for US$60) and get an additional 4,800 points for free, making enough points to redeem a stay and save US$19 per night.
The annual cap for Hilton HHonour purchased points is 80,000, which means that those who buy the maximum amount will receive an additional 64,000 bonus points. That’s a total of 144,000 points.
However, the attractiveness of the deal diminishes somewhat as you climb through the categories.
Hilton Osaka, a HHonor Category 8 property is priced at JPY27,000 (US$223) per night in late February.
With a daily redemption rate requirement of 50,000 Hilton HHonour points, members would have to buy at least 28,000 points to get a further 22,400 bonus points. This purchase would cost US$280, which would represent a loss of US$57 per night.
