Carlson considers sale of hotel business

22 Jan 2016 by Clement Huang

Carlson Cos Inc is reportedly exploring strategic alternatives for its hotel business.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the company is discussing the possibility of a merger, partnership or sale of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

The group consists of 1,370 hotels in operation and under development. Brands include Radisson Hotels, Park Plaza Hotels and Country Inns and Suites.

Carlson has hired American financial services firm Morgan Stanley to oversee the process, said the WSJ.

The cause for the move by Carlson has not been confirmed but may be due to pressures faced by the hospitality industry, which has seen apartment-sharing startups such as Airbnb eat into the hotel business.
