Budget airlines top the tables for the most new routes in 2015, with Ryanair and Easyjet unveiling 99 new routes each.
Despite recently announcing that it had transported more than 100 million passengers in 2015, Ryanair still added 35 fewer routes in 2015 than the year before, according to data collected by Airline Network News and Analysis.
European airlines claimed the next two spots, with Spanish Vueling and Hungarian Wizzair adding 90 and 85 routes respectively.
US carriers Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Airlines added 77 and 69 routes. Over the course of 2015, 3,100 services were launched across 173 countries, working out at almost 60 new services a week.
US airports received more than twice as many new services as any other country, with 827 new routes. Russian airports saw 381 new routes, closely followed by China with 378. The UK trailed with just 312, topped by Spain on 330.
Around 1,100 new services have already been announced for 2016, compared to 1,000 this time last year.
