Cathay Pacific to launch direct flights to Gatwick

10 Dec 2015 by Clement Huang

Cathay Pacific (CX) has confirmed that it will launch a four-times weekly service between its base in Hong Kong (HKG) and London’s Gatwick Airport.

The new route begins on September 2, 2016, and will complement the Oneworld member’s existing five-times daily service to London Heathrow Airport. The launch means that CX will offer a total of 39 weekly flights between Hong Kong and London – more than any other carrier.

Gatwick Airport is the second largest airport in the UK, and is located to the south of London, close to Crawley in West Sussex. The new service will provide passengers living in Greater London and the counties of Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex with greater convenience for flights to and from Hong Kong.

In particular, given the ever busy and congested air traffic at Heathrow, Gatwick Airport represents an attractive alternative port for travellers flying in and out of the UK capital.

CX intends to operate the Gatwick service with its soon-to-be-delivered A350-900 aircraft, which will arrive in time for the airline’s much anticipated 70th anniversary next year. The fuel-efficient plane will feature refreshed business class, premium economy and economy class seats.

“We are delighted to launch a non-stop service to Gatwick, using our new state-of-the-art A350 aircraft, which will help meet increasing demand for both business and leisure travel between the Asia-Pacific region and the UK,” said CX chief executive Ivan Chu.

“These additional flights to London will provide our passengers with greater choice and flexibility and, at the same time, continue to boost Hong Kong’s standing as an international aviation hub.”

Flights to Gatwick are now available for booking online via the CX website.
