Emirates updates in-flight entertainment

19 Nov 2015 by GrahamSmith

Emirates is upgrading its in-flight entertainment (IFE) system to include larger screens and three times the media storage capacity.

The new product is installed on the Gulf airline's newly-delivered B777-300ER and A380 aircraft.

First class IFE screens will increase in size by almost 20 per cent, from 27 to 32 inches, while those in economy will be "the industry's largest in-seat screens" at 13.3 inches. Business class screens will remain 23 inches wide.

Tripling the IFE media storage means passengers will have a greater choice of content to view, with 2,186 channels of on-demand entertainment and 1,230 music channels.

A statement said: "This includes over 50 full TV box sets and close to 600 movies."

Other new features include all PC power outlets equipped with HDMI and USB ports, enhanced handset controllers and personal video playback.

Patrick Brannelly, Emirates' divisional vice president of customer experience, said: "Our new generation ice system elevates the viewing experience, and offers passengers the most comprehensive movie and TV selection on any airline."

Emirates currently offers wifi on 142 aircraft, more than half of its fleet.

Last month, the carrier updated its amenity bags for its first and business class passengers (see news, October 15).
