TAP plans UK-Lisbon frequency increase

6 Nov 2015 by GrahamSmith

TAP Portugal intends to increase flights to Lisbon from London Gatwick and Manchester to double-daily by next summer.

The airline plans to up services from the two UK cities to Lisbon to feed destinations in Brazil and Africa.

Ricardo Dinis, TAP's general sales manager, told Business Traveller that the carrier wants to "consolidate what we have in the UK market".

Currently, TAP operates 11 weekly flights to Lisbon from both LGW and Manchester.

Dinis said: "We want to reach 14 daily flights a week [for each] by summer next year."

Although no new destinations will be served next year, Dinis said the aim is to "improve connectivity".

At the moment, TAP flies to 13 destinations in Africa and 12 cities in Brazil.

Dinis said: "We want to increase the influx of passengers to [Brazil] and are looking forward to the Olympics next year."

He said traffic to Brazil rose 14 per cent this year, discounting figures for the World Cup.

In July, TAP Portugal stopped selling the middle seats on short-haul business class flights within Europe, to improve the passenger experience.
