China Airlines flies to Melbourne and Christchurch

27 Oct 2015 by Clement Huang

China Airlines has become the only Taiwanese carrier to offer direct flights to Melbourne.

The new thrice-weekly Taipei–Melbourne service, which launched earlier this week, is a triangle route that continues on to Christchurch as well.

In addition to the existing eight flights a week that China Airlines operates from Taipei to Auckland via Sydney (or Brisbane during peak season), this is a total of 14 weekly flights.

Flights to Melbourne and Christchurch are served by the A330-300, which features a two-class configuration of 30 seats in business and 277 in economy.

Flight CI057 departs Taipei at 2330 and arrives in Melbourne at 1150 the following day. Following a short refuelling stop, the flight will continue on to Christchurch, first departing Melbourne at 1310 and arriving in the New Zealand city at 1830.

The return service on flight CI058 will depart Christchurch at 1950 and arrive in Melbourne at 2140. The flight will then take off from Melbourne again at 2310 and touch back down in Taipei at 0535 the next day.

To commemorate the launch of the route, China Airlines is offering an early bird special on economy class return airfares between Taipei and Melbourne starting from TWD32,088 (US$990). For those looking to fly to Christchurch, a return economy fare will cost TWD38,688 (US$1,193). Prices are inclusive of taxes and surcharges.
