Qantas and China Eastern partnership takes off

26 Oct 2015 by Clement Huang

Qantas and China Eastern customers are set to benefit from shorter transit times and greater frequent flyer benefits thanks to an expanded codeshare agreement.

The strategic partnership has seen both airlines co-locate their operations in Terminal 1 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport as of October 25.

The move provides customers with streamlined check-in facilities, access to China Eastern’s new lounge facility and improved connection times. It will also facilitate Qantas’ growing codeshare agreement with the Chinese carrier, which now includes new destinations such as Changchun, Jinan and Wuhan.

The enhanced agreement will also cover international routes. With effect from November 1 2015, Qantas customers will have access to new travel options between Shanghai and Australia, as the Flying Kangaroo will begin placing its marketing code on China Eastern’s double daily Shanghai–Sydney and Shanghai–Melbourne services.

“Our goal is to be the first choice for travel between Australia and China and customers will enjoy significant customer benefits as a result of the expanded partnership,” said Qantas International chief executive Gareth Evans.

“Co-location in Terminal 1 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport makes it easy for our customers to connect beyond Shanghai to the rest of China, and from cities across China through to Australia.
