Scoot to reduce capacity of Hong Kong flights

16 Oct 2015 by Clement Huang

Scoot has outlined changes to its Hong Kong flight schedule for the summer 2016 travel season.

With effect from May 1, the Singapore low-cost carrier will operate the B787-8 aircraft on the Singapore–Hong Kong route, instead of the larger B787-9 variant.

The aircraft change may indicate that the load factor for the route has been less than impressive. Scoot faces great competition for the Singapore–Hong Kong service, given that is well served by both full-service and low-cost carriers.

Along with Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Cathay Pacific, United Airlines also offers a daily service between the two destinations. On the low-cost carrier front, Scoot also has to compete with the likes of Jetstar Asia and fellow SIA subsidiary Tigerair.

The B787-8 will feature a two-class configuration but only offer 21 seats in ScootBiz and 314 in economy, compared to the existing B787-9 with 35 seats in ScootBiz and 340 in economy.

Service times will remain the same with flight TZ322 departing Singapore at 0155 and arriving in Hong Kong at 0545. The return service on flight TZ321 will then take off from Hong Kong at 0700 and arrive back in Singapore at 1040.
