Movenpick Hotels & Resorts has detailed its expansion plans for south-east Asia.
Following the successful opening of the Movenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok in May (see news, May 20), the Swiss hospitality group plans to expand its presence in Thailand with the 264-room Movenpick Siam Hotel Pattaya early next year.
Also on the horizon are a further three properties in Phuket and Koh Samui, for a total of five hotels in Thailand by 2017.
Movenpick will also be entering the Indonesia market with the 2016 opening of Movenpick Resort & Spa Jumbaran in Bali.
The 295-room resort will overlook Jumbaran Bay and feature a 500 sqm ballroom, business centre and meeting rooms, gym, library and spa.
Further hotels are being developed at strategic locations across Asia. These include Movenpick Hotel & Convention Centre Kuala Lumpur and Movenpick Resort & Spa Kuala Terrengganu in Malaysia; Movenpick Resort Boracay in the Philippines; Movenpick Hotel & Srate Guest House Chifeng in China; and Movenpick Resort & Spa Quy Nhon in Vietnam.
These properties will join the group's current portfolio of eight hotels within Asia, which are spread across Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, China and the Philippines.
In July, Movenpick announced that it will open its fourth Jeddah property in 2019 (see news, July 7).
