Aeroflot, the government-owned Russian flag carrier, is set to buy privately-owned Transaero.

Aeroflot will purchase a 75 per cent controlling stake in the struggling airline for one rouble, reports Bloomberg.

Transaero is Russia’s second largest carrier, after Aeroflot.

he deal will ensure that Transaero can continue to fly and “safeguards the tickets held by tens of thousands of passengers”, according to the Financial Times.

Last month, Airbus said that Transaero was delaying the delivery of the A380s it had ordered.
