Air Berlin's Topbonus loyalty programme has teamed up with 15 retail websites, including Amazon and Ebay, to reward members with miles when shopping online.
Members can earn up to five award miles per euro spent, but must access each website via the portal topbonus.de/shopping.
For instance, shopping at Amazon will earn up to three miles per euro, while two miles per euro can be earned at Ebay, and five miles per euro at fashion site Zalando. A full list of the 15 retailers and how many miles are awarded per euro spent can be seen here.
Topbonus said in a statement that it is the only frequent flyer or award programme whose members can currently earn miles/points when shopping at Amazon.
Anton Lill, Topbonus managing director, said: "There has been a sharp rise in the number of ways to collect miles with Topbonus - on the ground and in the air.
"For instance, customers who shop on Zalando, Amazon, Ebay, Otto, Conrad, Lieferando and numerous other established and popular portals via topbonus.de/shopping will automatically receive up to five award miles for each euro they spend."
Last month, Air Berlin introduced new amenity kits onboard its long-haul flights (see news, July 16).
