Singapore Airlines has launched its new premium economy product on its Changi-Sydney route.
Passengers on flight SQ231, which was operated by a B777-300ER and departed Singapore Changi airport at 0045 and landed at Sydney airport just after 1000, were the first to experience the cabin class.
The B777-300ER is configured with four seats in first class, 48 in business, 28 in premium economy and 184 in economy, in comparison to the existing set-up of eight in first, 42 in business and 228 in economy.
Premium economy seat
SIA is debuting premium economy on select flights to Sydney, before rolling the product out onto its Hong Kong route from August 12, to London Heathrow from August 28 and to Manchester from September 22.
It will subsequently be added to other destinations — including Beijing, Delhi, Frankfurt, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich — served by SIA's A380, B777-300ER and upcoming A350 aircraft.
Once fitted with the new product, which is configured 2-4-2, the A380s will feature 36 premium economy seats all located on the lower deck of the superjumbo. The premium cabins on the A380 will not be affected, with economy class being reduced to accomodate the new premium economy class seats.
SIA unveiled the full details of its new premium economy product earlier this year (see news, February 3).
