Taipei flight disruptions expected this weekend

7 Aug 2015 by Clement Huang

The expected landfall of Typhoon Soudelor in central Taiwan within the next 24 hours has prompted several airlines to announce disruptions to their services during the weekend.

Both Taiwanese carriers, China Airlines and EVA Air, have already cancelled a number of flights throughout the affected region, including flights CI308/CI309 (Taipei–Kaohsiung), and BR112/BR113 (Taipei–Okinawa).

Adverse weather conditions are expected to cause regional flight disruptions throughout the weekend. Hong Kong Airlines has already announced that it will be cancelling its twice-daily service to Taipei tomorrow.

Passengers are advised to check on the latest information regarding their flight status on the carrier’s website, or contact its call centre for more details. Provisions will be made to assist those affected by the cancellations.

Meanwhile, Japanese carriers Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) have warned that flights departing from Taipei Taoyuan, Taipei Songshan and Kaohsiung may experience delays, cancellations or diversions.

ANA has already delayed its ANA824 service from Taipei Taoyuan to Tokyo Narita ahead of the flight’s scheduled departure tomorrow morning. The situation is subject to change depending on the weather conditions, and passengers should check their carrier’s website for further updates.

Long-haul travel outside Asia will be largely unaffected during the weekend, but EVA Air did confirm that it rescheduled a number of its US-bound flights due to depart early this morning. These services will depart later tonight.
