Peninsula Hotels has submitted plans for a London hotel near Hyde Park Corner.

The Peninsula London, which is scheduled to open in 2021, will be located at 1-5 Grosvenor Place in Belgravia.

Plans lodged with Westminster Council today show the 190-room property will have a colonnade "linking to an internal 'Palazzo-style' courtyard".

Facilities will include shops, bars, restaurants and a ballroom, as well as 24-28 residential apartments with a separate spa, reception and entrance.

Two years ago, Hong Kong-based Peninsula spent £132.5 million for a 50 per cent stake, alongside freeholder Grosvenor, to redevelop the west London site, formerly a 1960s office block (see news, June 2013). Peninsula's parent company Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels bought the stake off Derwent.

Clement Kwok, managing director and CEO of Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, said: "We are delighted to partner with Grosvenor to bring the Peninsula brand to London.

"Each of our hotels embraces the local culture, style and history to deliver a unique experience for guests. As one of the world's most important destinations for business and tourism, London will be an exciting addition to our global network."

The Peninsula London has been designed by Hopkins Architects.

The Peninsula Paris opened in August last year (see news, June 27).
