Round-up: Five new airport lounges

VIRGIN ATLANTIC CLUBHOUSE, LAX

Virgin Atlantic opened a £2.5 million Clubhouse lounge in Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International airport in April (see news, April 30).

The 4,000 sqm LAX facility is the airline's 11th Clubhouse. Created by Virgin's in-house design team in partnership with Slade Architecture, it features a copper-lined bar and artwork by both California-based artists and British artists.

Virgin's Clubhouses at New York JFK and Newark Liberty airport were also both designed by Slade Architecture.

The airline has partnered with LA's Hinoki & Bird to provide a restaurant menu with three signature dishes – green papaya salad, chilli crab toast and miso donuts.

SINGAPORE AIRLINES HEATHROW SILVERKRIS LOUNGE

Singapore Airlines opened a Silverkris lounge in Heathrow Terminal 2 two months ago (see news, April 13).

The Heathrow Silverkris Lounge is located in T2B close to gate B36 and is open to first class and business passengers flying with SIA or any Star Alliance airline, and to SIA Krisflyer and Star Alliance Gold members.

With separate areas for first and business passengers, seating 50 and 158 respectively, the lounge contains living rooms, dining rooms, a bar, productivity pods, showers and a "roving host service".

EMIRATES LOUNGE AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Emirates opened its 37th lounge at LAX earlier this year (see news, March 19).

The $6.2 million facility is located in the Tom Bradley International Terminal, is 840 sqm in size and seats up to 157 people.

Features include free wifi, a terrace view, leather armchairs, a "choice of formal and relaxed seating", a dining area, showers, a prayer room and a fully-equipped business centre.

A private chauffeur-drive service is also available for first and business class passengers within 60 miles of the airport.

SKYTEAM EXCLUSIVE LOUNGE, SYDNEY AIRPORT

In January, Skyteam opened an Exclusive Lounge at Sydney airport, the alliance's third worldwide (see news, January 30).

The lounge has seating space for 140 people and is available to Elite Plus, First and Business Class passengers flying on any of the seven Skyteam airlines serving the airport. It is managed by Plaza Premium on behalf of the alliance.

Facilities include wifi access, an electrical socket by each seat, a business area with printer, a Champagne and wine bar, a wellness centre including showers and four full-body massage chairs, and a dedicated television room.

DELTA ARRIVALS LOUNGE, LONDON HEATHROW T3

Delta Air Lines opened an arrivals lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3 at the end of last year (see news, December 2014).

The Delta Arrivals Lounge is complimentary to all Business Elite passengers and to Sky Miles Diamond and Platinum Medallion members arriving from the US.

Open daily from 0600 to 1400, facilities include 11 private showers with Malin+Goetz amenities, butler services including clothes press and shoe shine, free wifi, a business centre and newspapers.
