Qatar Airways A350 makes maiden flight to Singapore

12 May 2015 by Clement Huang

The first A350 XWB to fly in Asian skies has touched down in Singapore for Qatar Airways from Doha.

According to Qatar Airways, the global launch customer for the new aircraft, Flight QR944 touched down at Singapore Changi Airport on 11 May to a water cannon salute, followed by a welcome ceremony attended by airline and airport executives.

“The A350 XWB is the third and final major new aircraft in a decade and Qatar Airways is delighted to be the first global airline to fly this state-of-the-art aircraft into Singapore and Asia-Pacific,” said Marwan Koleilat, the airline’s chief commercial officer.

Having deployed the A350 XWB to the Lion City, the carrier now operates three of the next-generation aircraft, and has a further 77 on order – 40 A350-900s and 37 of the larger A350-1000 variant.

Qatar Airways said the cabin products on the A350 are all new designs. At the nose of the aircraft is the business class cabin, where the Gulf carrier has installed 36 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Capable of reclining into an 80-inch flat bed, each seat comes with a 17-inch HD screen.

Just behind the premium section of the plane is the economy cabin, comprising 247 seats in a 3-3-3 configuration. Each is 18 inches wide, and features a 10.6-inch inflight entertainment screen. Click here for a seatplan of the A350.

“Singapore is a key market for Qatar Airways and we remain committed to offering our Singapore-based passengers the best in-flight experience possible,” Koleilat said.
