Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) is offering its members the opportunity to purchase Starpoints for a discount up to 25 per cent off.
Starpoints are the currency for the SPG programme, and are used to redeem free nights, upgrades at more than 1,100 hotels and resorts under the Starwood brand. In addition, the points can also be used to convert into air miles (select airlines only), as well as VIP tickets for exclusive music, sports and culture events.
As is a common practice, the discounts are tiered, meaning those that purchase more points will receive bigger savings. The complete list is available below:
- Get 10 per cent off 5,000–9,500 Starpoints
- Get 15 per cent off 10,000–14,500 Starpoints
- Get 20 per cent off 15,000–19,500 Starpoints
- Get 25 per cent off 20,000 Starpoints
The offer is valid until the end of May. Gift points can be purchased for oneself or as a gift for a fellow SPG member.
So how much are members saving by taking advantage of this deal? Well, the normal price of each Starpoint is 3.5 cents. However, by purchasing 20,000 Starpoints and thus receiving a 25 per cent discount on the cost, each point will only cost 2.6 cents.
Starwood boasts over 20 airline partners, meaning SPG members can convert their Starpoints into air miles at a 1:1 ratio.
It should be noted that for every 20,000 Starpoints that members convert into air miles, they would receive an additional 5,000-point bonus for them.
This essentially means that buying 20,000 Starpoints would allow you to convert them into 25,000 airline miles, which further reduces the cost of each point to only 2.1 cents.
