21 Apr 2015 by GrahamSmith

Ritz-Carlton has signed an agreement to open the highest hotel in Australia.

The 250-room Ritz-Carlton Melbourne will be located on the 64th to 77th floors of a mixed-use development, also including residential apartments and retail space, in the city's central business district.

Construction on the hotel at 250 Spencer Street will begin next year. A scheduled opening date has not been announced.

Herve Humler, Ritz-Carlton's president and CCO, said: "We look forward to welcoming Ritz-Carlton guests from around the world to a sensational high-rise hotel in Melbourne, a rich and intriguing city."

The Melbourne property is the second Ritz-Carlton scheduled to open in Australia. A hotel in Perth, again a mixed development that also contains residential apartments, is due to open in 2018 (see news, March 2014).

Ritz-Carlton is developing both forthcoming hotels with Fast Consortium.
