Emirates has launched a second daily A380 service to London Gatwick Airport.
The Gulf carrier has attributed the decision to increased passenger demand, which has led it to replace the B777 with the superjumbo. The A380 will add a total of 318 seats per day increasing capacity in all three classes by 11.5 per cent.
First class
“Demand for the A380 has prompted us to introduce a second daily A380 service to London Gatwick, months ahead of schedule,” said Hubert Frach, Emirates’ divisional senior vice president, commercial operations west.
“This strengthens our bid to provide both holidaymakers and business travellers with a world-class travel experience whilst ensuring better seat availability from one of the busiest airports in the UK”.
Business class
Emirates flight EK15 will depart Dubai International Airport at 0800 and arrive in London Gatwick at 1230. The return EK16 service will then take off from Gatwick again at 1425 and arrive back in Dubai at 0025 the following day.
London Gatwick is a popular alternate entry point for UK-bound travellers, due to growing congestion at Heathrow. Moreover, the airport also offers excellent connections to the South East and central London. For instance, the Gatwick Express train allows travellers to reach London Victoria station in just 30 minutes.
Economy class
Gatwick Airport is also home to the largest Emirates lounge in the world, which will benefit the airline’s first, business, as well as Skyward Platinum and Gold members. As with all Emirates flights, passengers will benefit from a standard baggage allowance of 30kg in economy, 40kg in business and 50kg in first.
