Qantas deploys upgraded A330 to Hong Kong

25 Mar 2015 by Clement Huang

Qantas has deployed its upgraded A330 aircraft on its Melbourne–Hong Kong route for the first time.

Hong Kong becomes the second international destination to offer the refurbished international aircraft, following Singapore in mid-January (see here).

The upgraded airplane features the new cabin products introduced last year (see here). Designed in collaboration with Marc Newson, the highlight is the new lie-flat Business Suites that allows passengers to recline their seats from take-off through to landing.

In addition, a new generation model of the Recaro seat has been introduced in economy, while customers in all cabins will benefit from the latest inflight entertainment technology.

Stephen Thompson, Qantas’ executive manager international sales, has highlighted the positive feedback from customers flying on the upgraded aircraft between Australia and Singapore, and is pleased that more customers in the region will now be able to do so as well.

“Our cabin crew are seeing more customers in business class enjoying our new Sleep Sooner service, where passengers can enjoy a meal in the lounge and settle into a fully made up bed when they board.

“As more refurbished A330 aircraft join the fleet, more customers will be able to experience the upgraded aircraft and choose Qantas as their preferred carrier for overnight flights from Asia,” he added.

Customers who flew on the inaugural flight out of Hong Kong yesterday evening were offered a limited edition Oroton amenity kit. For a complete review of the kit, see here.

Qantas is looking to refurbish more than half of its 28 A330s by December 2015. The remaining aircraft are expected to be upgraded by the end of 2016.
