SIA offers 5,000 Krisflyer miles to new applicants in Australia

6 Mar 2015 by Clement Huang

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is offering a month long (March 4 to 31) promotion that will see residents of Australia earn 5,000 miles when they enrol for the carrier’s Krisflyer program online.

The deal is only available to Australian residents and an eligible address is required for the registration.

Here’s how it works: during the registration process, applicants should scroll down to the “Communication preferences” section and fill in the promotional code field with ‘KFACQPU’. Upon successful registration, applicants will have 5,000 miles credited into their accounts.

In addition, new members will also receive an extra 5,000 bonus miles if they take an eligible Singapore Airlines flight by September 30.

Eligible fare classes include R,F,A for first/suite; Z,C,J,U,D for business; S,T,P for premium economy; and Y,B,E,M,H,W,N,Y for economy. Bookings must be made via the airline’s website to redeem the second 5,000 mile bonus.

The promotion also allows existing members of Virgin Australia’s (Virgin) Velocity Frequent Flyer programme to earn free miles. As previously reported by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific (see here), SIA and Virgin launched a joint frequent flyer conversion initiative last November. Points and miles can be converted at a ratio of 1.35:1 between both programmes.

Therefore, Velocity members that enrol themselves as new members of Krisflyer can convert the 5,000 welcome miles into 3,704 Velocity points.

Given that Virgin’s programme also offers an attractive family pooling option, in which six family members (including the beneficiary) can combine their accumulated points into a single account, this means that a total of 22,225 Velocity points could be earned for free.

Not a bad deal by any measure.
