Melia Hotels International has announced it will open a new Me brand property in Barcelona in 2017.
The 173-room Me Barcelona will be built on the site of the former Hotel Barcelona, now to be demolished.
The new hotel will be housed in a 15-storey building, including five basement levels, nine upper floors and a roof terrace. The development will also feature a car park and retail space.
Gabriel Escarrer, vice chairman and CEO of Melia Hotels International, said: "We wanted to create a truly stunning project for our Me brand in Barcelona, to equal the high standards set in London and Madrid, as well as Miami and Milan which open in 2015, and Dubai is also set to launch in 2016."
Me Barcelona will be designed and constructed by OUA, led by Jordi Artigas and Fito Architects.
Last week, Melia announced it will open a hotel in Paris' La Défense business district next month (see news, February 18).
