Easyjet unveils new livery

3 Feb 2015 by GrahamSmith

Easyjet has unveiled its new aircraft livery, which it will gradually roll-out across its fleet of 226 aircraft.

The budget carrier last changed the look of its fleet in 1998, when "easyjet.com" replaced a call centre phone number on the fuselage.

The new design drops the ".com", while the orange paint has been extended from the tailfin on the fuselage to create a larger space for the Easyjet logo, which is now 15 per cent bigger.

And, "an orange stripe reflecting the design language of Easyjet's advertising has been introduced on to the fuselage".

Easyjet currently has a mixture of 226 A319 and A320 aircraft in its fleet. It has 197 A320s on order, the majority of which will replace the older A319s in its fleet.

From April, all newly delivered aircraft will feature the new livery, while the younger aircraft in Easyjet's fleet will be updated when they are scheduled to be repainted, which happens once every six years.

Easyjet said 29 aircraft will have the new livery by the end of this year, while 50 per cent of its fleet will do by the end of 2017.

Out with the old: Easyjet's current livery

Peter Duffy, Easyjet's commercial director, said: "As you would expect from Easyjet this is a low-cost makeover — all our new planes will be painted with the new livery, but we'll only re-paint the old ones as needed. It could take five years for all the fleet to sport the new paint job.

"Like Easyjet itself, we wanted our livery to be as relevant for the next twenty years as it has been for the past twenty. The final design was selected by nearly 4,000 staff and customers."

Last week, in a surprise move, Easyjet revealed its support for London Heathrow's third runway plan (see news, January 30).
