Air New Zealand (ANZ) has finalised an order with Boeing for two additional B787-9 Dreamliners.
The order, valued at US$514 million at list prices, comes just six months after the carrier took delivery of its first B787-9. It also raises the total number of Dreamliners that ANZ currently has on order to 12.
Christopher Luxon, chief executive officer, ANZ, attributed the purchase decision to the fact that the Dreamliner has performed strongly, and would contribute to the airline’s growth strategy.
"The entry into service program has gone very smoothly and we've been incredibly pleased with the aircraft's performance," said Luxon.
In related news, the airline also revealed that it is moving ahead with its planned daily B787-9 service on the Auckland–Tokyo Narita route. Currently, the route is served by both the B767-300ER and B787-9, but the latter will become the sole operating aircraft from 21 August, instead of the originally planned 25 October.
Planned services are as follows:
NZ099 AKL 0840 – 1650 NRT
NZ090 NRT 1830 – 0820+1 AKL
AKL = Auckland; NRT = Tokyo-Narita
