Indonesia Air Asia's Surabaya–Singapore route suspended

5 Jan 2015 by Clement Huang
Indonesia Air Asia has suspended its Surabaya–Singapore route. According to flight status information published on the airline’s website, booking for flights operating the route is closed. The news comes just a week after Air Asia Indonesia's flight QZ8501 was confirmed to have crashed after it lost contact with traffic control on 28 December (see here). In response to an enquiry by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific, Indonesia Air Asia confirmed that the decision to suspend all flights between Surabaya and Singapore was not made by the airline but by Indonesian regulators. “The Surabaya - Singapore route is temporarily suspended by the regulator effective 4 January 2015 until further notice,” said a spokesperson for the airline. “The regulator requires further evaluation on the route and Air Asia will be fully cooperative throughout the process”. Indonesia Air Asia did not comment on the cause of the suspension, but reports have circulated that the reason may be due to that the airline did not have the authorisation to fly between Surabaya and Singapore on Sundays – the day of the QZ8501 tragedy. According to Sky News, Indonesia Air Asia’s other flight schedules are also under investigation. For more information, visit airasia.com/id/en Clement Huang
