If you are spending the holidays in Hong Kong and hoping to do something charitable – or simply to admire art – head down to the lobby of Kowloon Shangri-La to view the world’s largest Zentangle mosaic assembled with 3,024 tiles.
The final piece, which will be on display until New Year's Eve, measures 5.6 metres wide and 4.3 metres tall and is a collaborative work of thousands of donors in support of Operation Santa Claus (OSC) by the South China Morning Post. Each tile is unique in its patterns and colours, but when all the tiles are put together, they reveal a picture with a pre-designed message: icons of the city such as the Clock Tower and Bauhinia, doves and a world map of hearts.
Kowloon Shangri-La is inviting bids for the mosaic, to raise additional funds for OSC, which aims to introduce positive change to the lives of disadvantaged people in Hong Kong and mainland China.
Involved in putting final touches to the piece were the hotel's general manager Ulf Bremer (pictured top right); Fina Man, the first Certified Zentangle Teacher in Asia; Ellen Yeung, project director of OSC; Hugh Chiverton, head of English-language programming at Radio Television Hong Kong; and a number of local artistes.
