Colombian carrier Avianca and Azerbaijan Airlines have both taken delivery of their first B787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Avianca's B787 will operate in a two-class configuration with 28 passengers in business and 222 in economy. It is unclear how Azerbaijan Airlines will configure its jet.

Both carriers plan to use their B787-8s to expand their long-haul networks.

Azerbaijan Airlines president Jahangir Askerov said: "We are delighted to receive this revolutionary airplane, which will help Azerbaijan Airlines increase its competitiveness both regionally and internationally."

Boeing said that, to date, it has had 1,055 orders for its B787 Dreamliner.

Earlier this year, Avianca launch a direct service between Bogota and London Heathrow (see news, February 5).
