Air New Zealand adds Singapore

3 Dec 2014 by Tamsin Cocks

Auckland-based Air New Zealand (ANZ) will start serving Singapore’s Changi Airport from January 6 as part of the alliance it announced with Singapore Airlines in September.

Air New Zealand and fellow Star Alliance member Singapore Airlines (SIA) will both fly the Singapore – Auckland route daily.

ANZ’s new service will depart Singapore every morning as NZ281 at 0850 to arrive in Auckland at 2345. Return service NZ282 will leave New Zealand at 0115 to get into Changi at 0645. The SIA service departs Singapore at 2050 for an 1145 arrival into Auckland the next morning. The return service takes off at 1330 and lands back at Changi at 1900.

ANZ will serve the route with one of its newly-refurbished Boeing B777-200ER aircraft featuring Business Premier, premium economy, economy Skycouch and economy seating.

Loyalists of ANZ’s Airpoints programme and SIA’s KrisFlyer will enjoy reciprocal frequent flyer benefits on both carriers, i.e. Airpoints members travelling on SIA will continue to enjoy their Airpoints earning and frequent flyer benefits as they do today, while also being able to earn and redeem Airpoints Dollars on SilkAir (SIA’s regional subsidiary)services.

ANZ chief executive officer Christopher Luxon says the alliance is great news for both travellers and New Zealand’s tourism industry alike.

“Our alliance with Singapore Airlines going on sale is an exciting milestone in our growth strategy.  We are looking forward to operating to Singapore for the first time in eight years, with this alliance allowing us to further expand our long haul network and open up a wide range of new codeshare destinations for our customers.

“Singapore Airlines is well regarded for its inflight product and service which we believe complements the service that Air New Zealand is well regarded for.  By working closely together we hope we can further stimulate the market and drive visitor numbers from both ends of the route,” says Mr Luxon.
