Starwood Hotels & Resorts has celebrated the opening of W Beijing – Chang’an. Most room types are ready, with the WOW Suite and Extreme WOW Suite expected to come online by the end of the year.
The new property is the second W Hotel in mainland China after W Guangzhou (see story), and boosts the group’s portfolio in the country to nearly 140 hotels.
Situated on the major thoroughfare of Chang’an Avenue, W Beijing is in close proximity to several important monuments and buildings, including Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the headquarters of the Central Bank of China.
The hotel – designed by Hong Kong-based interior design firm AB Concepts – consists of 349 guestrooms and suites, all of which come with a digital tablet used to control the room’s lighting and mood, 48” LED TV, and Bluetooth sound system.
As with all W Hotels, all guestrooms also include the brand’s signature W bed, Bliss bath amenities, and Mix Bar. The suites also sport a JBL home theatre system and Bose portable speakers.
When the Extreme WOW Suite opens later this year, it will be a must-see. It will showcase W Hotels' new take on the traditional presidential suite category. With a size of 345sqm, the suite includes a living room and 90sqm of space for parties. There is also a 76” U-shape OLED Samsung TV in the living room, two-metre wide circular bed, and Jacuzzi by a ceiling-to-floor window. The suite can also be combined with three Wonderful rooms to create an exclusive private space.
Dining options include X25, a lounge located at the top of the hotel offering handcrafted cocktails; YEN, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant serving Cantonese cuisine; and all-day dining outlet Kitchen Table.
The hotel also offers nearly 1,500sqm of versatile meeting space, including The Great Room (518sqm) that comes with a ceiling height of seven metres. For pampering, guests can make use of the extensive menu of treatments and restorative regimens at the Away Spa. There is also a fitness centre and heated indoor pool.
W is on track to open seven W Hotels within the next five years across China, in cities including Changsha, Chengdu, Shanghai, Suzhou, Sanya, and Shenyang.
