Economy class customers travelling with Lufthansa now have the opportunity to bid for a premium economy upgrade on flights where the travel class is available.
The new product is now available on all routes served by the German carrier’s Boeing 747-8 aircraft (Bangalore, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Beijing, São Paolo, Seoul, Tokyo-Haneda and Washington, D.C.).
Bidding for the upgrade is easy and very similar to the “Enhance” service launched by Cathay Pacific earlier this year (see here). Passengers who are book on economy class can visit the airline’s website LH.com and log into the “My Bookings” section to bid for the upgrade.
The bidding service, known as “myOffer” is flexible as it allows customers to edit or retract their bids up to 72 hours before their flights depart. All economy bookings classes are eligible to participate.
All customers who have used the service will receive an email between 48 to 24 hours before departure informing them whether or not their bids have been accepted. Winning bidders will immediately be charged the corresponding amount via credit card, and be awarded with a new e-ticket.
While myOffer is available for most premium economy class destinations, customers should note that tickets purchased in India or Japan are excluded from the service due to technical and legal reasons. The same holds true for tickets that are part of a group booking.
