Accor to open two new Scotland hotels

24 Nov 2014 by GrahamSmith

Accor will next year open new hotels in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The French company will unveil a Mercure property in the capital and its first Ibis Styles in Glasgow. Both will operate under franchise agreements.

The 110-room Mercure hotel will be located at 38 Gardner's Crescent in the centre of Edinburgh and is scheduled to open in the spring.

Each room will contain an Apple television and high-speed wifi will be available throughout the four-star property.

Accor's Glasgow Ibis Style property will contain 101 rooms and will be located on Miller Street in what is currently Telfer House. It is due to open next autumn.

Thomas Dubaere, managing director of Accor UK & Ireland said: "These new hotels will help us to expand the Accor brands in Scotland, where our business is already enjoying great success.

"We're especially pleased to be working with franchise partners for these economy and midscale hotels, as these are segments where we see a lot of growth potential.

"Scotland is an important region for us, with its enviable tourism industry and flourishing business ecosystem, so we continue to seek new opportunities to grow and participate in the local economy."

In September, Dubaere told Business Traveller that Accor plans to operate 300 hotels in the UK by 2018 (see news, September 12).
