Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Virgin Australia (Virgin) have jointly launched their frequent flyer points conversion initiative.
The news was first announced back in September, as reported by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific (see here). However, today’s follow-up reveals that SIA’s KrisFlyer members and Virgin’s Velocity Frequent Flyer members will now be able to convert their points and miles at a rate of 1.35:1, effectively stripping passengers of 35 per cent of their miles if they choose to convert them.
“We recognise the value our alliance with Singapore Airlines offers, providing access to more than 80 international destinations, and we are thrilled to now enable our members to experience the best of both our networks through these unique features,” said Neil Thompson, Velocity Frequent Flyer chief executive.
It is good news for Velocity Frequent Flyer customers who can now convert their points to SIA’s KrisFlyer miles and therefore gain redemption access to the carrier’s exclusive A380 suite product – something only available to the airline’s own loyalty programme members.
Points can now be converted directly through both the SIA and Velocity Frequent Flyer websites. A mileage calculator is available online to calculate the amount of points customers will receive following the conversion.
Do note that you would have to be a member of both SIA’s KrisFlyer and Virgin’s Velocity Frequent Flyer programmes to use the service.
SIA senior vice-president marketing planning, Lee Wen Fen, said: “By unlocking greater redemption opportunities, we are now able to provide full synergy to our customers through our alliance with Virgin Australia”.
