The Business Traveller Asia-Pacific and China Charity Auction 2014 is now open for bids on a range of exciting travel packages.
Industry partners have donated over 260 offers, ranging from flights to hotel stays across the globe, with many opening bids starting at just one fifth of the real value.
For the ninth year in a row, all proceeds from the auction will be going to the Chi Heng Foundation (CHF), a charity dedicated to supporting youngsters affected by HIV and AIDS in rural China.
These children come from some of the most impoverished regions in China where desperate villagers have resorted to illegal blood selling as a means of supporting their family.
Tragically, poor standards have meant that virus-infected needles have been re-used, leading parents to contract the disease themselves. Many found themselves too ill to care for their children, while others sadly died, leaving behind orphans.
It is the fate of these children that the CHF aims to change. During the 2013-14 school year, the foundation sponsored more than 8,800 of these young victims to continue their education. CHF promises a long-term commitment to their wards, to see them throughout school and further education.
The second major focus is to try and heal the broken hearts of these poor children. With an emphasis on psychosocial practices, such as drawing and storytelling, the CHF tries to rebuild the confidence of self-esteem of affected individuals.
The charity has also invested in building reading rooms and expanding their programme further into central and southwestern China, as well as a number of other initiatives including a distance-learning programme, summer camps, and helping villagers to help themselves by designing bags for sale.
