British Airways has celebrated the launch of its new A380 route between London and Singapore by flying actress Gwyneth Paltrow to the city state.
The Hollywood star posed at the Marina Bay Sands in a photo shoot that saw her lounging on a BA Club World seat in the middle of the hotel's infinity pool, some 650ft above street level.
BA began its superjumbo service to Singapore yesterday. The route is initially operating three-times weekly, with outbound flights departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and each return leg taking-off the following day (see news, February 19).
From February 9, BA will upgrade the service to daily, adding 4,000 seats a month to the route.
Flight BA11 departs LHR at 1920 and arrives in Singapore the following day at 1555, while return service BA12 leaves Singapore at 2310 and lands at Heathrow at 0450 the next morning.
Other flights on the route — including BA15/BA16, which continues beyond Singapore to Sydney — will continue as before.
Paltrow said: "Singapore has always been a top destination on my wish list, so when British Airways approached me to help launch their impressive A380 to Singapore I couldn't resist — it was a great opportunity, both fun and truly unique.
"The location for the shoot was stunning and I’m glad to finally have a photo of myself in the famous infinity pool. With my job I fly a lot, so it's great that I can now travel to Singapore on the British Airways superjumbo.
"I'm a big fan of the local cuisine here, especially the chilli crab, and I've really enjoyed exploring the city and trying the amazing variety of food on offer. There's still so much that I want to visit here and I look forward to returning."
