Qatar Airways (QR) has revealed that its soon-to-be-delivered Airbus A350 XWB aircraft will be deployed on the Doha–Frankfurt route.
As the launch customer of the fuel-efficient jet, QR is expected to receive its first A350 by the end of the year. It will then operate the aircraft on the non-stop daily service to Frankfurt from January 2015.
According to the Gulf carrier, the European city was chosen as the inaugural route for the A350 due to capacity and favourable load factors.
QR currently flies to Frankfurt twice daily, with both services to be operated by the A350 next year. The aircraft is configured to offer two classes, with 36 seats in business and 217 seats in economy.
With a total of 80 A350s on order, QR is expecting to take delivery of eight of them by the end of next year.
“Qatar Airways looks forward to inaugurating our first A350 on the Doha–Frankfurt route, and to very soon introducing this next-generation aircraft on many other cities offered on the airline’s extensive network,” said Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive of the airline.
