Easyjet to launch six new routes from Amsterdam

16 Oct 2014 by GrahamSmith

Easyjet will next year launch six new routes from its forthcoming Amsterdam Schiphol hub.

The airline is opening a new base in the Dutch capital in the spring, and will from there start operating flights to Hamburg, Venice, Toulouse, Nice, Olbia and Dubrovnik.

It will also increase frequences from Amsterdam to London Gatwick (42 to 49 weekly); Basel (from 13 to 16 weekly); Berlin (16 to 18 weekly); Bordeaux (four to seven weekly); and Bristol (nine to 11 weekly).

Easyjet said the creation of its Amsterdam base means it can provide a new daily early morning departure to Geneva, in addition to the existing early slot to Gatwick.

Additional traffic in Amsterdam is expected to increase by 600,000 passengers next year, which represents a 16 per cent year-on-year increase (for the year ending September 2015), up from 3.6 million passengers in the previous year.

William Vet, Easyjet's commercial manager for the Netherlands, said: "Basing three aircraft in the Netherlands will bring more choice for Dutch passengers and lower fares. It will also help boost local tourism and economic growth with the creation of hundreds of jobs and increased passenger numbers."

Earlier this week, Easyjet added a passport scanning function to its mobile app (see news, October 14).
