United to upgrade airport experience at Newark Liberty

17 Sep 2014 by Clement Huang

United Airlines (United) has announced plans for a transformation project that will see the airline upgrade its dining and retail experience at Newark Liberty International Airport.

With a US$120 million capital investment, United’s refurbished base in Terminal C at Newark Liberty will include new chef-driven restaurants, expansive food halls, gourmet markets and new retail and duty-free shops.

Some of the new additions will include:

  • Nearly 6,000 iPad tablets will be available at airport kiosks for use free of charge inside the terminal. These will allow travellers to track their flights, order from chef-created menus, and purchase travel amenities that can be delivered directly to their seat at the terminal. Internet browsing is also provided.
  • 55 new dining venues will provide travellers with a wide number of culinary choices, including restaurant concepts created by some 20 renowned chefs. Menus will emphasise fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and will highlight the best in regional and local cuisines.

“Travellers today want the same high-quality dining and shopping choices in the airport that they have at home," said Kate Gebo, United's vice president of corporate real estate. "In collaboration with OTG, United is creating a customer experience at Newark Liberty that will provide exceptional food, beverage and retail options with the comfort and high-tech amenities that our customers have come to expect”.
