Qantas to codeshare with SriLankan Airlines

17 Sep 2014 by Clement Huang

Qantas has launched a new codeshare agreement with Oneworld member SriLankan Airlines, creating new options for customers of both carriers to visit Australia and Sri Lanka, respectively.

With effect from October 26 (subject to regulatory approval), the Flying Kangaroo will place its marketing code on SriLankan’s daily Singapore–Colombo service. This will enable Qantas customers to connect within 2-3 hours between the Qantas services arriving in Singapore from ‘Down Under’ and the SriLankan-operated flights to Colombo.

Reciprocally, SriLankan will codeshare with Qantas on the Australian carrier’s daily services between Singapore and Brisbane and Melbourne, as well as the double-daily service to Sydney.

“Building on the relationship we have with SriLankan through oneworld, we’ll offer customers travelling from Australia more connections to Colombo via Singapore, with the added benefit of a codeshare service. This means more opportunities to earn frequent flyer points and have your baggage checked right through to their destination,” said Stephen Thompson, Qantas executive manager international sales.

The new codeshare agreement complements the existing partnership that Qantas has with Emirates, which sees the Flying Kangaroo place its airline code on the Gulf carrier’s own daily Singapore–Colombo service. It also means Qantas customers will soon have the option of either a morning or an evening departure from Singapore.
