Qatar Airways to take delivery of A380

12 Sep 2014 by Clement Huang

Qatar Airways looks set to receive its first Airbus A380 next week, after the airline began sending out media invitations to attend the delivery ceremony of the aircraft earlier today.

As reported earlier by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific (see here), the Gulf carrier had previously rejected the delivery of its first three superjumbos from Airbus. The reason cited was quality deficiencies of the aircraft interiors, with the paint in some areas having a bubbled texture, while there were also visible gaps in the non-textile floor coverings.

According to users of the popular aviation forum Airliners.net, Qatar Airways has finally approved the fixes that Airbus has made to the superjumbo’s cabins, and have scheduled delivery for September 18 at the carrier’s base in Hamad International Airport.

Attendees will witness the arrival of the A380 as it lands after flying from Airbus’s headquarter in Toulouse. Following the reveal, a tour of the new aircraft will take place. For Business Traveller’s report on the A380’s new first class cabin, click here.

The first Qatar Airways A380 will be deployed on the carrier’s services between Doha and London-Heathrow from October 10. The superjumbo will serve flights QR003 and QR004 respectively, with the former departing Hamad International Airport at 0755 before arriving in London at 1315. The return service will take off once more from Heathrow Airport at 1505, and land back in Doha at 2350.

Qatar Airways is expected to take delivery of two more A380s by the end of the year, which will allow it to deploy the aircraft on its flights to Paris, while simultaneously enabling daily rotations.
