Xiamen Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The Chinese carrier is now the third airline in China to operate the fuel-efficient aircraft.
"With the innovative technology and exceptional efficiency, the 787 Dreamliner will be key to our further growth and international expansion," said Che Shanglun, president and chairman of Xiamen Air.
The airline intends to use the Dreamliner on its planned long-haul routes to Europe, North America and Australia. While the majority of its network is primarily domestic services, Xiamen Air does fly to some 26 international and regional routes, including Singapore, Bangkok and Seoul.
As China’s only all-Boeing carrier, Xiamen Air took delivery of its 100th Boeing aircraft last November. The carrier's current five-year plan, ending 2015, will see it grow its fleet to 150 airplanes, with the bulk to be the B737 narrowbody aircraft. It also has an existing order for five more B787s to fuel its long-haul aspirations.
