Marriott International is set to open the first property under its new budget hotel brand Moxy next month.
Moxy Milan Malpensa airport is located within walking distance of Terminal 2, and features 152 rooms with ten suites.
The new brand was announced last year (see news, March 2013), and is being developed in partnership with Inter Hospitality, part of the Ikea group.
Speaking to Business Traveller last year at the announcement of a forthcoming Moxy hotel at Heathrow airport in 2015 (see news, November 2013), Amy McPherson, Marriott International's president and managing director of Europe, said that the brand was "squarely positioned in the budget category", with 17 sqm rooms and a self-service food and beverage concept.
According to the hotel's website, rooms will feature "a floor-to-ceiling art wall, free wifi, 42-inch LCD TV, upscale bath amenities and sumptuous bedding", while other facilities include a "lobby-turned-living room featuring communal seating, free wifi, 24/7 Market and two meeting rooms with writing walls".
Marriott says that the brand is "designed to capture the rapidly emerging millennial traveller", and "combines contemporary stylish design, approachable service and, most importantly, an affordable price".
Plans are to extend the brand across Europe, and aside from the Milan and Heathrow hotels, the Moxy website lists properties in Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt and Oslo as "coming soon".
