Changi Airport opens new hawker centre

12 Aug 2014 by Clement Huang

Foodie alert! Travellers passing through Changi Airport Terminal 3 should check out the newly opened Singapore Food Street.

Located on the third level of the departure hall, the new hawker facility occupies a space of around 1,000sqm and features 13 stalls offering over 200 popular dishes. To those who are unfamiliar with the hawker culture in Singapore – it refers to the open-air complexes selling local favourites at cheap prices.

Singapore Food Street has been designed with Peranakan-themed décor. For example, stalls are housed in nostalgic 1960s-style pushcarts.

Travellers visiting Singapore Food Street will be able to sample diverse dishes including Bak Kut Teh (pork rib soup) and Odeon Beef Noodles – a mainstay local dish featuring noodles drenched in herbal beef broth, and served with brisket.

“The Singapore Food Street is a strong addition to Changi Airport’s diverse range of dining offerings.  It brings to the airport Singapore’s colourful hawker food culture, which is a big part of the average Singaporean’s lifestyle.  We look forward to bringing in more exciting dining options to satisfy the preferences of our diverse group of passengers,” said Ivy Wong, CAG’s senior vice president, airside concessions.
