Qatar Airways to offer more seats on Perth route

4 Aug 2014 by Clement Huang

Qatar Airways will be increasing the number of seats on its daily service from Doha to Perth as of October 1, when it will replace the Boeing 777-200 with a B777-300 aircraft.

The change in aircraft will result in a 30 per cent capacity increase, with economy class seats climbing from 217 to 356.

According to the airline, this has been driven by the “exceptional growth” that the Perth route has enjoyed since it was first launched over two years ago.

However, a closer look shows that while the overall capacity is increasing, Qatar Airways is actually dramatically reducing the number of seats in its premium cabin. The Gulf carrier currently offers 42 seats in business class, but this will be cut to 24 on the B777-300.

While the introduction of additional seats is consistent with Perth’s role as one of Australia’s most popular destinations, the redistribution of seat types indicates that the passenger load factor on business class is not as substantial.
