Emirates has cancelled its daily service to Kiev effective immediately.
The Gulf airline was going to drop the route on August 1 anyway (see news, July 10), just over half a year after launching it (see news, July 2013).
But due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine between government and pro-Russian forces, and following last week's Malaysia Airlines disaster (see news, July 17), the airline has now decided to axe the route straightaway.
It is believed that the A340 used on the route will be put on the carrier's newly launched daily Budapest flight in October instead.
On Monday, Emirates president Tim Clark called for an international airline conference to discuss how best to respond to the Flight MH17 tragedy (see news, July 21).
