Beer and baseball with United

7 Jul 2014 by Clement Huang

United Airlines has partnered with craft brewery Goose Island Beer Company to offer a new alcoholic beverage to passengers.

Goose Island’s 312 Urban Wheat Ale is a Chicago-inspired beer – named after the city’s downtown area code, and is identifiable through its spicy aroma and fruity ale flavour.

"We are thrilled to join with another strong Chicago brand as we further enhance our beverage service," said Lynda Coffman, United's vice president of food services. "Our customers have told us they want craft beer on board, and with the addition of 312 Urban Wheat Ale, we are able to satisfy their tastes with an excellent product."

The beer is available on flights worldwide and is free for premium-cabin customers, although economy passengers will have to shell out US$7.99 to enjoy the unfiltered taste. It will also be on sale at United Clubs in America, where it will cost US$3.

In addition to upgrading its beer offering, United is giving its customers access to another all-American pastime – baseball. Members of United’s Mileage Plus loyalty program can now use their miles to purchase tickets to the Chicago Cubs–San Francisco Giants game on August 19 at Chicago’s luxury Skybox on Sheffield rooftop bar, overlooking the Wrigley Field stadium.

40 pairs of tickets will be available on auction between July 17 and August 6. Interested customers can bid for the tickets using their Mileage Plus points via the Mileage Plus Headliners website.
