China Airlines has introduced initiatives to keep the cabin cool during summer months, to allow passengers to board the plane in comfort.
When the airport staff is transporting inflight materials into the cabin, a heatproof curtain will be placed at the door to block the heat from the out side. After the flight has landed, stewards will also ask window-seat passengers on the sunny side to pull down the shades.
The airline has tested these measures and recorded that the cabin temperature decreases by three to four degrees Celcius when they are implemented.
To further help passengers cool down, travellers flying from Taipei to international destinations, including Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Sydney, Brisbane, Vienna and Frankfurt, will be offered chilled traditional Chinese drinks.
First and business passengers will be given “Suanmeitang”, a traditional Chinese beverage made from ingredients including sour plum, rock sugar and sweet osmanthus. It not only is an effective drink for cooling off in the heat, but also believed to aid digestion and inhibit the buildup of lactic acid in human bodies.
Meanwhile, Chinese herb tea will be provided for economy passengers. It is a concoction made from Chinese medicinal herbs and with a lightly sweet taste. The airline claims that it helps balance the "internal bodily climate".
