Air Canada this morning became the second airline to operate out of London Heathrow Terminal 2. The carrier joined fellow Star Alliance member United Airlines at T2 when flight AC856, a B777-300ER from Toronto, touched down at 0704. Robert Atkinson, Air Canada's general manager UK, Ireland and Northern Europe, said: "The new terminal will enhance our customers' travel experience with improved services and facilities as well as our own Maple Leaf Lounge showcasing world-class Canadian products. "Air Canada offers more flights from the UK to Canada than any other airline and London Heathrow is our most important international airport. "As all of our Star Alliance partners gradually move into the new terminal over the coming weeks and months, Air Canada customers will benefit from improved connecting times at Heathrow." T2 will be home to the Star Alliance group as well as to Virgin Atlantic Little Red, Germanwings and Aer Lingus. Opening in stages, the other airlines will move over gradually, with all in place by the end of October, the start of the winter season. The Queen will officially open the new terminal on June 23, some 59 years after she opened the original terminal. aircanada.com, heathrowairport.com Graham Smith
