HK Express will expand its services to Japan with a new route to Nagoya commencing on 25 September 2014.
This marks the fourth Japanese destination to be served by the no-frills carrier, which currently operates flights to Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.
The announcement was delivered earlier today at the Hong Kong International Travel Expo, accompanied by the launch of a four-day promotional offer of one-way flights to Nagoya starting from HK$80 (US$10). The offer ends on 15 June 2014.
It was also revealed that HK Express will be increasing its flights to Osaka, with twice-daily services starting on 18 July.
Both of these measures have been driven by an increasing demand for low-cost flights to the region.
“Growing our network to Japan is a core facet of our strategic plan,” said Andrew Cowen, deputy CEO of HK Express, “The new low-fare route to Nagoya reiterates our commitment to the region, and makes good on our promise to bring affordable and accessible air travel to Hongkongers.”
Nagoya will be the airline's 13th destination, with direct routes already servicing Phuket and Chiang Mai in Thailand, Taichung in Taiwan, Kunming in China, Penang and Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) in Malaysia and Seoul-Incheon.
In recent months, the low-cost carrier has also announced it will be launching new services to Ningbo, China on 31 July and Busan, Korea on 7 August (see here).
The airline currently operates six A320 aircraft, with economy class only, and will be adding two more to its fleet within the next three months.
Last month also saw the upgrade of HK Express' online facilities to allow passengers to select their seat, order meals and check-in baggage.
The Hong Kong - Nagoya route will operate six times a week:
